My friend and I had this really cheap knock off les paul, and we were pretty bored so we figured we'd repaint some stuff like the pick guard. Pretty much all you have to do is unscrew it, lay it out on some newspaper, put coats of any stores generic spray paint, let it dry for a couple hours very importantand screw it back on.

There are so many different type of plastics and paints, it is very hard to recommend something that will work "for sure". That said, you can always go out and buy a cheap can of spray paint, spray it on, and see if it works.

We spray painted a black pick guard gold by the way. Spray your PG plastic with a Paint for Plastic Acrylic Lacquer Primer: Rustoleum, Krylon, etc. Spray a Colorcoat Acrylic lacquer on top if the Primer color isn't a suitable background. Use Acrylic. If I found myself in a situation that called for it I would buy a clear one and paint the inside. I think that would keep the painted from being chipped off as easily as just slapping a coat of paint on one.

Giant , Dec 16, I've painted a white one black before on a squire bullet strat and the one on my strat look-alike. What you have to do is take a fine grit sandpaper I believe I used grit and sand it down real well until it no longer base any shine to it. Then hit it with coats of primer. Make sure to sand the primer each time like you did before.
Then I would use acrylic paint if you can it's a lot tougher than normal paint. I put like coats of paint on mine. Once again don't forget to sand in-between. This has worked well and both pickguards I've done it on still look great.

The plastic paint tends to be a lot goopier and doesn't seem to dry well, or look good.
Sanding and just painting with regular gloss spraypaint works well. The only downside is that you can't get a 3ply look. Messages: 3.
Anyone have a pic of how a plexiglass pickguard painted from the back looks?
